It all started with a bean.
Since 1954, Christmas designs have been the hallmark and cornerstone of Annalee Dolls. From that date until today, it has been the plump, merry, and “uniquely Annalee” Santa Claus that has symbolized the heart and soul of the company.
Annalee Thorndike’s first Santa was a 12-inch bean-nosed Santa with hand-painted features, a cotton beard, and boots whose soles were repurposed from an unused strip of linoleum that was left over from her kitchen. (Yes, an actual uncooked Joseph’s Coat bean was used for the nose.) Since that first Santa, thousands of Christmas designs featuring all types of elves, animals, and various characters have found their way into collectors’ homes where they are loved and passed down through the generations. Annalee dolls have become a cherished part of our Christmas traditions.
Introducing the 2023 Christmas Collections
Today, the Annalee tradition continues with the release of four new 2023 Christmas Collections. This year’s collections, each designed around an individual theme, offer a mixture of traditional and contemporary styling that is playful, cozy, fanciful, and, in true Annalee flair, forever whimsical. In keeping with tradition, each collection includes new unique Santa and Mrs. Claus designs. New cheerful snowmen, spicy gingerbread men, and heavenly angels also will capture your attention. Dozens of enchanting animals of all kinds also enhance each collection. Plus, some of the most magical (and well-dressed) elves to ever come out of Annalee’s workshop are ready to spread joy and help you have the happiest of holidays. 1. Jolly Collection
Bold and, ahem, oh so jolly, the 2023 Jolly Collection features a classic red and white striped fabric combined with bright red and green felt to really capture the spirit of the season. The smiles are really big in each Jolly design. Each design has a playful and cuddly appeal that immediately brings a smile to the face and warms the heart. Highlights of the collection are three new wickedly wonderful “naughty elf” designs, a cooler-than-cool Jolly Cardinal, and a stately and handsome Jolly Snowman. You also won’t be able to resist the twin Jolly Red and Jolly Green elves in their oh-so-cozy and adorable cable knit sweaters. They’re sure to be collector favorites.
2. Plaid & Pine Collection
The 2023 Plaid & Pine Collection is designed with a little touch of country charm. Simply put, it’s beautiful. A subtle red plaid print is coupled with soft heather gray felt in each design. Accents include pine sprays, rustic jingle bells, red berries, and burlap. The festive menagerie of animals make this collection truly stand out. You’ll fall in love with the striking fox, mama moose, playful mice, gift-giving squirrel, gray tabby kitty, and a very precious donkey. Plaid and Pine also features two distinct Santa and Mrs. Claus designs, in 9-inch and 15-inch versions.
3. Poinsettia Collection
Everyone’s favorite Christmas flower is the inspiration for the 2023 Poinsettia Collection. Each design in this series is beautifully elegant with its delicate red and white floral print, soft red velour, and precious poinsettia accents. Just like the flower it is inspired by, each design will add a festive touch to your home for the holidays. The poinsettia’s symbolism of good wishes, love, and hope can be seen in a majestic pony, two very friendly penguin designs, two statuesque reindeer designs, a traditional snowman, and an adorable polar bear (you just want to cuddle him). And let’s not forget the new Santa and Mrs. Claus designs. They’ve really got the spirit.
4. Holiday Sweets Collection
Some of the best moments and traditions of the holiday season happen in the kitchen. Everyone loves making (and especially eating) favorite holiday dishes and desserts. That’s why Annalee has featured chefs, cooking, baking, and cookie and candy designs as part of its annual tradition. The 2023 Holiday Sweets Collection is a bright and whimsical group of chefs and critters that really share a love for Christmas treats. Each design is made extra sweet with a very festive and colorful candy cane print. And in true Annalee fashion, Santa and Mrs. Claus lend helping hands in the kitchen. Remember, Santa really loves his cookies and treats. You’ll also really like to cozy up with the Cocoa Share Mice and Rolling Pin Mouse.
